A roller bandages applied in a figure of eight can be used to support a strain or sprain of the elbow or knee, or to hold a dressing in a place at or near these joints. It is important to bandage adequately on either side of the elbow or knee as well as around the joint itself in order to provide even pressure over the entire injured area. The method shown here for bandaging the elbow can also be used for an injured knee.

1. Support the injured arm with one ad. keeping the elbow slightly flexed if possible. Starting at the crook of the elbow, unroll the bandage down towards the inner side of the arm and around the elbow joint, wind the bandage around the joint several times to keep the end in place.
2. Continue the unroll the bandage slowly. Bringing it around the elbow joint at a slight angle so that you make a diagonal turn around the upper arm. This new turn should cover the top half of the previous layers from your initial turns. Continue to support the injured arm.
3. Bring the bandage down around the outside of the elbow and up to make a diagonal turn around the forearm. The bandage should cover the lower half of the bandage from your first straight turns.
4. Continue to wrap the bandage diagonally in a figure of eight above and below the joint.Each time you wrap the bandage around the joint, try to cover about two-thirds of the previous layer.
5. to finish off, make two straight turns around the firearm and secure the end. Check the circulation by pressing on a nail or on the skin of the hand. If the skin colour does not return immediately when the pressure is released, the bandage may be to tight
